Robert Snow

It is with much sadness that the family of Robert Franklin Snow, III announces his passing on February 28, 2018, after a three year battle with ALS. Robert was born April 17, 1945 to Robert (Bob) F. Snow, Jr. and Kathleen Moore Snow. Robert’s grandfather was the Mayor of Phoebus and owned the Snows Bicycle Shop also located in Phoebus. Mayor Snow was a volunteer firefighter for the Phoebus Fire Station, henceforth began the next two generations of firefighters. Robert was raised within a few feet of the Phoebus Fire Department and he became a volunteer at age 16. After a brief time working at the shipyard he obtained a firefighter position at York County Fire Department where he worked until 1974. He left York County to take a firefighter position at Fort Eustis where he remained until he retired in 1995. Robert is pre-deceased by his father and mother, Bob and Kathleen Snow. He leaves behind his loving wife, Kay after 42 years of marriage. He is also survived by his endeared son, Bobby, and his fiancée Tina Keefe, two grandsons, Zachary and Joshua Snow and Katie Keefe. He also leaves behind his beloved and dearest sister, Sylvia Snow and special friend Gail Parker. Robert enjoyed life and loved to make people laugh. After retirement he enjoyed yard work and woodworking. He became quite the craftsman. He made wooden toys, clocks, baby high chairs and beautiful furniture. He always said “Measure twice and cut once.” and “He who has the most wood clamps wins.” Robert left his impression on all of us and he will be sorely missed. Robert and the family would like to thank our dear friends at Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their love, laughter, special care and prayers during the last year of his life. He always said that the one good thing he got out of having ALS was the fact that he was blessed to meet all of the great people at Hospice. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Gina and Pam who have been with us throughout this journey for the last year. Arrangements are being handled by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 100 Villa Dr., Poquoson, VA from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hartfield Fire Department, PO Box 205 Hartfield, VA 23071 or any charitable organization that is special to you.
