Robert “Wayne” Wright, 74, passed peacefully on November 1st with his family by his side. Born in 1944 in Middlesex County, VA, Wayne graduated from Middlesex High School with the class of 1962. Wayne proudly served his country in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for heroic service in a combat zone. Upon arriving home, he married Jenny Neely and moved to Roanoke, VA where they raised three boys (Chris, Jeff, and Patrick) who survive him along with their wives and six grandchildren. Wayne owned and operated H.C. Baker Company in Roanoke until his retirement.
Wayne was known for his infectious and mischievous grin, quick wit, and helping others. He worked hard to instill a sense of responsibility and self-reliance in his boys. He enjoyed good food, dancing, and his annual fishing trips to Cape Hatteras. He loved his family and animals of all kinds, especially dogs.
He is also survived by his sister Nancy, brothers Johnny, Richard, Everett, William and their families along with his former wife, Jenny. A private memorial celebration will be held for family members and close friends. Arrangements by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA.
