Roland Todd Wilson, 59, of Mathews, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Todd was born on December 3, 1961. He graduated from Mathews High School. He retired from the James City County Fire Department as a District Chief. He was later employed by Yorktown Oil Refinery Fire Department where he held positions of Captain, Battalion Chief, and Assistant Chief. Todd also served as a CERT Instructor throughout Virginia. He served with the Virginia Task Force 2 as a FEMA Structural Collapse Technician and a FEMA Rescue Specialist with deployments to the Pentagon on 911, and multiple hurricane deployments including Katrina, Opal, Frances and Ivan. Todd was a member of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years holding positions over the years of president, chief, station captain, training officer, secretary, training captain and assistant chief. At the time of his death, he was employed at Chimney Corner Lawnmower Inc. He was also a member of the Poplar Neck Hunt Club.
He was predeceased by his father, Roland R. Wilson; grandparents, Ray and Elizabeth Wilson and Captain Willie and Mabel Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Dana Wilson; a daughter, Jessica Wilson; his mother, Dianne Wilson; father and mother in-law, James and Mary Ray; a brother-in-law, Steve Ray (Susan); three nephews, Aaron, Kyle, Daniel Ray; several aunts, uncles and cousins and his faithful companion “Blu”.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins, Virginia with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Todd’s memory to the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1130, Mathews, Virginia 23109 or to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076.
