Ruth Benson

Ruth S. Benson, age 81 of Deltaville, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.  She was a member of Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville.  Ruth served the Middlesex County Rescue Squad for 41 years.  She also served the Ladies Auxiliary of the MVRS for 38 years, where she was instrumental in starting bingo as a fundraiser for the squad, along with suppers, bake sales and the flea market.  She was predeceased by her husband George (“Jr.”) T. Benson and a sister, Mary Owens.  She is survived by her sister, Nellie Hilker (Steve) of Deltaville; a brother, Charles M. Sadler of Richmond,Va.; a niece, Betty Hudgins of Mathews, Va., and several nieces and nephews; a loving friend and caregiver, “Sissie” George of White Stone, Va., and her beloved cats “Precious and Morris.”  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 6-8p.m. in Philippi Christian Church.  A funeral service will be held in the church on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 2:00p.m., with entombment to follow in Windsor Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleum, Dutton.  A reception celebrating Ruth’s life will be held following the entombment at the Deltaville Rescue Squad building.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
