Sandra L. Hovey from the Urbanna area passed away at the age of 86 on August 14, 2024 after a lengthy time of disability. Sandra (known to her husband of 45 years, as “Sandra Rose”); is survived by her husband Stanford Hovey, her daughter Aubrina Schryer, and her son Eric Schryer and his wife, Susan. She is also survived by four step-children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sandra was pre-deceased by her father, Joseph Lauchard, her mother, Maxine Linzinmeir, her step-father Frank Linzinmeir, and her brother John Linzinmeir.
Sandra was born in Marysville, Ohio, lived in France after World War II and later in Newport News where she graduated from high school as its valedictorian. She worked in real estate, as a bookkeeper for a publisher and as a computer entry specialist for the U.S. Army at Fort Eustis, VA. She was always service-oriented and was pro-active in local politics. After moving to Urbanna in 1992, she was on the Urbanna Town Council in 1994, President of the Middlesex County Woman’s Club 1997-1999, and very active in the Urbanna Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She held various positions actively participated in various church roles while in Urbanna.
She loved traveling with her husband, Stan, and they spent many years during the winter in Florida and summers at their cottage on the shore of Lake Ontario in northern New York State. Frequently, she was able to visit and participate in activities with her children and grandchildren. Sandy was always ready to socialize with her many friends in a group known as the “Love Handles” while living in Urbanna. One of her special relationships (especially during the last two years) has been with her little dog—Brittany-the Beagle!
There is a plan for a graveside service and celebration of Sandy’s life in late spring of 2025 in Henderson Harbor, NY. Any donations in her honor are suggested to be given to the Urbanna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98 Deltaville, Virginia 23043.
