She is survived by her children, Jim (Rebecca), Michelle (Howard) and Melinda (Thomas); her 4 grandchildren, Emily, Caleb, Garrett, Hayden; father of children, James Platt, sister- in- laws, Sarah (Lionel), Vickie (Mike) and Faye (Henry); brother- in-law, Billy and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Archie Smith and Eloise and John Coar; her brother, Guion, and her sister- in-law, Carolyn Smith.
Sandra retired from Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Service Board after 25 years and served her community as treasurer of MCVRS for 10 years. She was also an active member of Hermitage Baptist Church and involved in many activities to include, VBS, Sunday school and the choir through the years.
She loved to do crafts with sewing being her favorite, from hemming to formal wear and everything in between. In addition, she enjoyed eating steamed crabs while enjoying the view at John and Stephanie’s home. Family was everything to Sandy, she was very devoted to them. Being a mother and “Mamaw” made her the proudest. Her heart was fullest when she was surrounded by her family, decorating, and celebrating the holidays, especially Christmas which was her favorite. Our hearts are broken, and she will surely be missed by all who knew her.
A special thank you to Heron Cove 1 ladies, Riverside Hospice and especially Vicky Powell for their care and support in her final days.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2023, at Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2023.
