Sarie Bowman

Bowman, Mary Sarie Keely, 81, a beloved wife and mother passed away on September 25, 2018. She was born in Waterview, VA to Ocie Shelton and Carlyle Frederick Keely, Sr. and was a life-long resident of Middlesex County.

Sarie was the mother of three children and was preceded in death by her oldest son, Vernon Duval Robins, Jr. (Robin). She is survived by her devoted husband Leland Roy Bowman, Jr., son Jeffery Keith Robins, and daughter Jacqueline Renee Robins Gilman (Chris); two sisters Elizabeth Hamilton and Lydia Kirkland; and two brothers, Carlyle Frederick Keely, Jr. and Fred Shelton Keely. She was grandmother to four grandchildren, Brandon Christopher Robins (Julie), Stephen Tyler Robins, Jarred Scott Robins, and James Christopher Gilman, Jr.; and 3 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bowman was the former Deputy to the Commissioner of Revenue for Middlesex County, the first woman appointed to the Middlesex County School Board and the first female chairman of the board. She was a talented artist, seamstress and homemaker. Her creativity and good works were known to many. She was a member of Urbanna Baptist Church and a former member of Forest Chapel United Methodist Church and member of the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex.

A celebration of her life will be held at Urbanna Baptist Church on Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 A.M.
