Shelton C. Rowe, 86, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at his home. He was born on May 2, 1926 and was a lifetime resident of Gwynn's Island, Virginia. He attended Gwynn's Island Baptist Church Men's Bible Sunday School Class until health issues developed. He was a commercial fisherman for 60 years and seafood dealer at Callis Wharf on Gwynn's Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Rainier Rowe; parents, George Vernon and Addie Diggs Rowe; sisters, Christine Holloway, Emma Lee Knight, Minnie Williams, Eleanor Stevens, and Della Forrest; and brothers, Wilson, George Vernon, Jr.(Buddy), and Julian Rowe.
He is survived by his daughter, Darnell R. Wells and her husband, Arthur (Art) of York, PA; grandson, Aaron Arthur Wells and his wife, Angela of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Atkins and her husband, Bill; brother, Jack Rowe; 5 sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 7- 8:30 pm at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, March 4th. at 2:00 pm in Gwynn's Island Cemetery, Grimstead, Virginia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
