Shirley Apsley

Shirley Miller Apsley, 79, of Urbanna died Thursday, April 10, 2014 after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Apsley was born in Urbanna, February 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Archie Lee Miller and Agnes Brown Miller. She was an active member of Urbanna Baptist Church, serving on a number of committees. She was a student at Johnston Willis Hospital, School of Nursing, and after working at Long Island, New York as a dental assistant, Mrs. Apsley returned to Urbanna to be the assistant to Dr. V. Stanley Hart at his dental practices in Urbanna and Richmond. She then served as secretary to Lewis Jones, Jr., Attorney at Law, before working for Reynolds Metals in Richmond processing dental insurance forms and then as secretary of Harmony Grove Baptist Church until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, A.L. Miller, Jr. Survived by two sisters, Catherine Miller Ferree of Syringa, and Ann Marie Miller Waters (Rudy) of Gloucester; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11:30AM Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Urbanna Baptist Church with a private interment in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Topping. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Urbanna Baptist Church, Marston Scholarship Fund, PO Box 416, Urbanna, VA 23175.
