Soles Howlett

Soles Hancock Howlett, of Dutton, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, September 5, 2016.

He was born in Dutton, on October 27, 1924, to John Hancock Howlett and Willie Maude Soles Howlett. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He served in Germany in WWII, achieving the role of Sergeant of the Reconnaissance Company, GG1st Tank Destroyer Battalion.

Soles began his career in construction as a brick layer. He later retired as vice-president of H&S Corporation. After retirement, he worked part time for Bay Transit, enjoying the interaction with his customers.

He was a lifetime member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church. He served as Rappahannock District lay leader.

Soles was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara Kemp Howlett. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Howlett, and his sister, Dorothy Howlett Adams.

He is survived by his two sons; Danny Howlett and his wife, Marcia and Timothy Howlett and his wife, Pam; his daughter, Jennifer Howlett Hall and her husband Randy. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Rhonda Howlett, Daniel Howlett and his wife Katherine, Stacey Hall Privett and her husband, Joshua, Kristen Hall Setty and her husband, Gerald, Samantha Howlett, and Logan Howlett. He is survived by a great-grandson, Micah Privett.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Locust Grove United Methodist Church, Dutton, Va. Funeral Services will be held on September 8, 2016 at 10:30 am also at Locust Grove, and will be conducted by the Rev. Kerry Boggs and the Rev. Paul Gillespie. Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main St., Gloucester, Va. 23061 or the Locust Grove UMC Memorial Fund, 1832 Windsor Rd, Dutton, Va. 23050.

A special thanks is expressed to his very dedicated personal caregivers and the Riverside Hospice. Their loving care made his last days more comfortable.
