Stanley Warren Rhines, 89, of Tappahannock, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 after a brief illness. He was born on February 15, 1929 in Hallton, Pennsylvania to Ralph Snowden and Frances Simmerline Rhines and spent his youth roaming the hills of north western Pennsylvania and fishing in Spring Creek. He considered as his greatest achievements graduating from Pennsylvania State University and marrying Jean Dabney Hutchinson. After graduating from Penn State, he served in Korea as an officer and moved to Tappahannock to work for the Virginia Department of Forestry until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Dabney Hutchinson Rhines; 3 daughters, Anne Dabney (Steve Elder); Frances Snowden (Timothy Hudgins) and Virginia Henley Rhines; 5 grandchildren, Sarah Elder, John Elder and Mary Anne Elder; Anna Hudgins and Edwin Hudgins and one sister Evelyn Parrett. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Robert Rhines; Cloy Rhines and sister Mary Rhines Kirkwood. He was a dedicated member of Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church and a grandfather who never ceased to be very proud of his grandchildren’s achievements.
Visitation will be held at Faulkner Funeral Home; Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, and the funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Tappahannock United Memorial Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Smyrna Christian Church Cemetery in Bruington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Earl Street, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff, whom he referred to as angels, in the Critical Care Unit at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center as well as the dedicated cardiology staff.
