Susan Evans

December 31, 1969 — July 13, 2022

Susan Ann Medlin Evans, 74, of Laneview, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2022, as a result of complications during surgery. She has always been known as "TD" or "Aunt TD" to her family and "Susu" to almost everyone else. Susan grew up in the Rocky Mount area of North Carolina where her family farmed tobacco. She moved to Virginia with her parents, Theophaleus and Beatrice Medlin, and six of her siblings in 1966. She was working at the Levi Strauss factory when she married her husband Johnny in 1969. Susan was later employed by Riverside Hospital, and then Bareford Buick for many years, but she may be best known as the petite and friendly woman who helped customers at Lowe's Lawn and Garden Center in Tappahannock until her retirement in 2020. She enjoyed her job at Lowe’s because it combined her life-long love of gardening and the opportunity to meet new people. Susu's hobbies included quilting, cross-stitch, word puzzles, and collecting anything related to Elvis Presley. She will be dearly missed and always remembered by her family and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband John M. Evans, her sisters Estelle Murray, Nina Robinson, and Reba Talley, her brothers Hillard “Fred” Medlin, James “Buddy” Medlin, Jimmy “Bob” Medlin, Donnie “Billy” Medlin, and Kenneth “Pete” Medlin. She is survived by her only son, Mark Evans, her daugher-in-law, Claire Evans, her two cherished grandsons, Wyatt and Kai Evans, her sisters Margaret Heath (and her husband Doug), Carolyn Best (and her husband Jerry), and Cathy Thornton, her brothers Lloyd Medlin (and his wife Leona), Roger Medlin, and Wayne Medlin (and his wife Donna), as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who she loved beyond measure.

Susan requested a celebration of life which will be held at Glebe Landing Baptist Church on Saturday, July 23rd at 2pm. A visitation with the family will precede the service from 1-2pm at the church for those unable to stay for the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department or the MCV Foundation in support of the Pauley Heart Center, noting on the check's memo line that the gift is in memory of Susan Evans, and mailed to VCU Gifts & Records, Box 843042, Richmond, VA 23284-3042. Online gifts may be made by visiting support.vcu.edu/give/vcuhealth.
