In Loving Memory of Terry Lynn Haney.
Terry was born to Don and Wilma Haney on June 21, 1948, in Waynesville, North Carolina. Terry passed at the age of 75 on February 11, 2024, in Jamaica, Virginia.
Terry grew up in Newport News, Virginia where he attended Newport News High School, graduating in 1966. Upon graduation, Terry attended Old Dominion University where he was a dedicated member of the TKE Men’s Fraternity. He graduated from ODU earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Terry's 31-year career as an Internal Revenue Service Agent took him to various places beginning in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where his daughter Lauren was born and later to Roanoke, Virginia, where his son Ryan came into the world. Ultimately, Terry spent most of his career in Mechanicsville, Virginia before retiring on the Rappahannock River in Jamaica, Virginia.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry was a lifelong referee with a passion for multiple sports, including Football (NFL, Arena, NCAA, High School) as well as Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. His commitment to the Virginia Commonwealth community extended beyond the field, as he served as a census auditor, and elections official.
Terry found great joy in Carolina beach music, a beautiful day on the Rappahannock River, and ODU football.
Terry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Trey Thompson, his son Ryan Haney, and his three beloved grandchildren, Emilie Green and husband Garrett Green, Ford Thompson, and Cian Haney. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronnie Haney and Eric Haney. Terry is preceded in death by his parents Don and Wilma Haney and former wife, Sandy Haney.
Terry will be remembered for his dedication, kindness, and the love he shared with his family and community. May he rest in peace, leaving behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on February 17, 2024, at the Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda, Virginia.
