Thomas George Schroeder, 88 years old, departed this world on Friday, February 10, 2024. He was born in Easton, Pennsylvania to William and Caroline Koch Schroeder and was the youngest son of nine children. After Tom graduated from high school,he attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, graduating in 1957. He married Nancy Eleanor Squire in June of 1959. Tom took a job at Ingersoll-Rand near his hometown for a few years, before moving to Nancy’s home state, eventually settling in Tappahannock where Tom worked at Camco and Nancy taught elementary school. Tom concluded his career with 15 years of service at the Department of Defense – where he thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the world to inspect Defense facilities.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy and son David, daughter-in-law Roxanne, three grandsons -- Quinn, Evan, and Roman -- and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his son Thomas George Schroeder, Jr. and eight siblings.
He was a devoted family man who especially loved hunting and fishing with friends. He and his wife Nancy also enjoyed traveling to auctions. We know Tom and his favorite dogs Suki, Butch and Buddy will enjoy the rabbits in heaven! He will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Tom will be cremated with a funeral Mass at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Tappahannock, Virginia on Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Tom’s preferred charity, the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
