Timothy Sutton (Tim), 62, loving brother, uncle and friend received his special angel wings on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at home in Harbinger, NC surrounded by his family. He was born on February 7, 1959 to the late Freeman and Virginia Sutton of Mathews, VA.
Tim was loved by all who met him. His sweet smile and laughter were contagious, and he lit up a room when he entered. He loved everyone unconditionally, especially his “girls”. He loved his music, books, games and cards, especially anything to do with the Wizard of Oz. Tim and his brother-in-law, Gary spent many special hours playing music together. The Special Olympics was a big part of Tim’s life since he was very young. He won countless medals over the years and also won a medal in the local Senior Games. He worked at McDonald’s of Kitty Hawk for 12 years before his health deteriorated.
He is predeceased by his parents; a brother, Bob Sutton, and a sister, Cathy Lynn.
Tim is survived by his devoted family, sister, Jackie Church (Gary); brother, Gene Sutton (Martha); niece, Susan Cicero; nephews, Scott Sutton (Kim) and Douglas Sutton (Cheryl);great-nieces, Chelsea Ernst, Lindsay Cicero, Ashley Cicero, Taylor Sutton and Ali Sutton; many cousins; step-niece, Tammy Whitmore and great-nieces, Deanna Spain, Sierra Church, Tiffany Whitmore and nephews, Chad Whitmore and Zachary Church; extended family and SO MANY friends.
The family wishes to thank Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for their help and caring, especially Heather Kepler, Juanita Baum and Melanie Church, also to his Easter Seals family of amazing caregivers and staff, and to the Monarch Currituck Lighthouse Club for friendships he made over the past 16 years since he moved to the Outer Banks. There have been so many people that have made a difference in Tim’s lifetime, we apologize if we have missed anyone.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Haynes Cemetery, Cobbs Creek, Virginia with parking at Mathews Chapel Church, 4185 Buckley Hall Road, Cobbs Creek, Virginia 23035. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, including social distancing and appropriate face coverings. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation may donate in Tim’s memory to the Dare or Currituck County Special Olympics. Twiford Funeral Home assisted the family in the Outer Banks, NC and Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel is assisting the family in Mathews, Virginia.
