Velma Glascock

December 31, 1969 — September 4, 2015

Velma Norton Glascock, of Deltaville, died on September 4, 2015 at the age of 91.    She was proceeded in death by her parents Capt. Dewey Norton and Alice Gray Norton and her husband Battelle Glascock, a special grandmother Cora Norton.  She is survived by her son, Dewey Glascock (Juanita) and her daughter Betsy Hudgins (John).  Also surviving are her five grandchildren Candice Mitchem, Danielle Hill (Harvey), Bonnie West (Gene), Ben Callis and Sylvia Hudgins.  She leaves behind eight great grandchildren, Sydney, Lyndsey, Colby, Alyssa, Abigail, Sean, Mary Logan and Andrew.  Several dear friends, including;  Jeremy Mitchem, Benja Callis, Chris Norton, Eunice Jones, Rose Talbott, Edith Faulkner , Helen Haley, Nancy Bennett, Lakeau Blackwell, Lynn Payne, a wonderful Doctor Steve Glessner & her cat, Rainbow.  Velma worked at the Deltaville post office for 30 years and served as the postmaster in her last years there.  She was known for her wonderful customer service, as well as her hospitality at home and her great meals, especially at Christmas.  Velma was a longtime member of Philippi Christian Church, where she worked in many areas of the church, especially with the children.  She was also a past member of the Eastern Star.   Funeral services will be held 2pm, Monday, September 7th, at Philippi Christian Church with interment to follow in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery, at Deltaville.  The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Sunday, at Philippi Christian Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Philippi Christian Church, P.O. Box 555, Deltaville, VA 23043 and the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98, Deltaville, VA 23043. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.
