At the end of 1985, after 15 months as office manager in pharmacy services with the Medical College of Virginia, she returned to Craigie Incorporated in the Muncipal Bond and Underwriting Department, where she rose to the position of Vice President. Craigie was subsequently purchased by BB&T, and she retired from their Capital Markets Division in 2002. Upon retirement, she became a part time receptionist at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw until 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Birdie Grey Williams Lawton.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Douglass Davis; son, William Booker Underwood III, (Donna Marie Abshire); daughters, Susan Cary Pomeroy (Benjamin Bradbury Pomeroy, Jr.); Sarah Davis Hill (Ronald Vernon Hill, Jr.); and Sallie Davis Mayer (Henry Hamilton Mayer III); six grandchildren, William Booker Underwood IV, Kinsey Davis Pomeroy, Henry Davis Mayer, James Davis Hill, Lillian Williams Mayer, and Catherine Walker Hill.
