Bryan Virgil Miller, husband of the late Myrtle Deagle Miller, died peacefully on April 24, 2022. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Baynard Wharton and Annie Bell Sibley Miller, and a grandson Brandon Miller. He was the last surviving member of his family, having been predeceased by six siblings. Virgil was a lifelong member of Zoar Baptist Church. He was born at Prospect near Locklies, VA on March 16, 1928. He graduated from Syringa High School and married his high school sweetheart, Myrtle, on October 12, 1946. He proudly served in the Coast Guard and often returned to Cape May, NJ in later years to visit lifelong friends. Myrtle and Virgil founded and operated Miller Marine Railway, Inc. where he was recognized throughout the industry as a master boatbuilder, a legacy that continues with his grandsons. Virgil was a founding member of the Deltaville Rescue Squad. After retirement, Myrtle and Virgil cherished their time together for many years in the Florida Keys. They remained inseparable for 70 years, sharing the joys and sorrows of their personal and business lives. Virgil spent his last years relaxing in his recliner at his home on Jackson Creek, watching baseball and spending time with his family.
Virgil is survived by his children Bryan Miller and his wife Debbie of Deltaville; his son Barry Miller; his son Bruce Miller and his wife Carolyn of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Bryan Allyn Miller (Jennifer), Ashley Miller Taliaferro (Mark), Braden Miller, Blake Miller (Courtney), Kaytlyn Miller Schleef (Ryan), Brent Miller, Brennen Miller and Elizabeth Ann Miller; seven great-grandchildren, Baylen, Benton and Cayden Miller, Duncan and Luke Taliaferro, Kinsley Miller and Kara Schleef. A special thanks to his loving caretakers he fondly referred to as his “cuties”: Shauna Deagle, Chris Norton and Lisa Morris. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville, with visitation at 1 p.m. before the service. Graveside service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Virgil Miller memorial fund at the Deltaville Maritime Museum P. O. Box 466 Deltaville, VA 23043.
