Virginia Quarles Moody Thrift Daughtrey, widow of Brig. General Buddy Rex Daughtrey, USAF died on Monday, November 11, 2013 in Williamsburg, Virginia at her residence at Patriot’s Colony. Ginny or “Sis” as she was known locally, was born in Richmond, VA on June 14, 1927 to William Clinton (Middlesex County, VA) and Clare Smith Moody (Palmyra, VA). After her mother’s passing, William later married Elizabeth Hogge Moody, “Liz” who raised Ginny and her sister Clare, who is now deceased. Ginny worked for 24 years with the Civil Service, including four years in the White House. Ginny was one of four Executive Secretaries to President Lyndon B. Johnson. Ginny left the White House and married Buddy Daughtrey, spending a few years living in Japan. Ginny and Buddy retired in 1970 to Urbanna, VA where Ginny’s parents, William Clinton and Elizabeth Moody lived as well as Buddy’s mother, Coleen Daughtrey, “Coco.” They enjoyed many years of retirement in Urbanna, surrounded by family and long-time friends. Buddy Daughtrey died in 1993, and Ginny remained in Urbanna until 2003 when she moved to Williamsburg. She truly enjoyed her time there, surrounded by very special friends. Ginny was a member of Christ Church Parish, The Women of Christ Church, the Altar Guild and the choir. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16th at Christ Church Parish, Christchurch, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
