R. Wayne “Flipper” Thompson, 68, of Tappahannock went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 23, 2021 with his wife and daughters at his side. Wayne was a professional firefighter with the Henrico County Fire Department for 36 years. He also served with the Tappahannock Volunteer Fire Department, where he obtained the rank of Fire Chief before becoming a Life Member. He was a mentor to many, which continued into other facets of his life. Wayne was a power lifter and won several competitions. At the local fitness center, he became a personal trainer and CPR instructor. After retirement, he devoted much of his time to his faith and serving through his church, Mt. Zion Baptist. He was a deacon, leader of the Brotherhood, Sunday School teacher, and founder of the food pantry. He also volunteered yearly with the Salvation Army. Above all, Wayne loved his God and family.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Billie Ann; daughters, Laurie Thompson (Gary Michael) and Katie Rogers (Ulric); grandchildren, Gavin and Mallory Michael and Kelsie and Connor Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Juanita, and a son Brian Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Faulkner-Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, including social distancing and appropriate face coverings.
