Wesley Greenwood

December 31, 1969 — May 25, 2012

Wesley Christopher Greenwood, Jr., a true Virginia waterman and sportsman departed this life on Friday, May 25, 2012. He is survived by his wife of thirty two years, Annette Foster Greenwood. He was the father to three children, all of whom he was extremely proud, Judy Greenwood Aldridge (Tim) of Poquoson & Remlik, VA, Captain Josh Fitchett (Debbie) of Montpelier, VA and Joey Fitchett (Nina) of Saluda, VA. He had six grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly, Virginia Aldridge Norton (Darryl), Alex Christopher Fitchett, Kloe Marie Fitchett, Calvin Trey Fitchett, Sarah Annette Fitchett and Matthew Layne Fitchett. He also had two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Norton and Savannah Norton. He is also survived by his sister Hazel G. Stover, Church View, Virginia, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Stevensville, Virginia he soon found himself in Middlesex County where he lived out his later life on the water as a commercial fisherman. He also was a fur trader and trapper throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was the founder of Greenwood Fur and Scrap, currently Middlesex Metals. In his earlier years he partnered with stock car racers from Carolina and Virginia and raced at many speedways in the Carolinas and Virginia both dirt and asphalt racing. His many pastimes included big game hunting in Montana and Idaho, deer hunting in the East and his favorite pass time turkey hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia Trappers Association. He also coached Little League baseball for Middlesex County as the boys were growing up.

He was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church and served as a deacon before his health failed. He entertained many on Saturday nights with Bluegrass Music Groups from surrounding counties at his fur shop after his retirement. He continued his passion for hunting and trapping as well.

The visitation will be Saturday (today) from 5 to 8pm at Hermitage Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2pm in Hermitage Baptist Church, Church View, Virginia. Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff of Walter Reed Convalescent Center and Hospice of Virginia for the care and comfort that was provided for Wesley.
