Wilbon Simms Wilmore of Laneview, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 9, 2025.Wilbon was born on September 10, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia, and was the son of the late John Robert Wilmore, Jr. and Julia Bareford Ashby. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Prince Wilmore; sister, Jean W. Layton and brother, John Robert Wilmore, III.
Wilbon is survived by his beloved and devoted son, Darren Simms Wilmore, and his wife Page; his much-loved granddaughters, Emily Wilmore Beatty and her husband Zach,and Elizabeth Claire Wilmore; his brother, E. Britt Ashby and wife, Helen, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Wilbon retired after 38 years of service with the Virginia Army National Guard. He was a past member of the International Association of Lions Clubs where is served in various capacities. He was a member of Howertons Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Evelyn Smith, for the dedicated and thoughtful care that she gave Wilbon during the last years of life.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock, Virginia. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Glebe Landing Baptist Church, Laneview, Virginia. The Pallbearers will be Zach Beatty, Jay Loving, Jimmy Harmon, John Tucker, Kevin Carr, and Andy Brooks. Wilbon was a life-long sports enthusiast and faithful follower and fan of the Tappahannock Tides. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tappahannock Tides Baseball, c/o Justin Lankford, 3508 Howerton Road, Dunnsville, Virginia 22454.
