Willard Smith

Willard R. Smith, age 91, of Gloucester passed away in his home on Saturday, September 26, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II where he received the bronze star. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester and a retired school teacher, football coach and principal of the public school system and an avid Washington Redskins fan. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Gurley Smith. Survived by his children, Kathryn S. Bailie, Sidney S. Smith, Valerie J. Smith and Glenda L. Ritter, four grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Salem United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Rita Staul. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorial gifts may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 11408 Salem Church Road, Gloucester, VA 23061.
