William D. LeCompte

It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” Donald LeCompte announces his passing. Mr. LeCompte, 73, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.  He was born April 29, 1938, in Urbanna.

Mr. LeCompte grew up in Virginia and played football at Middlesex High School, graduating in 1958.  He served a four-year apprenticeship at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, graduating in 1962.  He was certified as a wood patternmaker. He moved to Waterloo in 1967 to work for John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo.  After he retired from John Deere, Mr. LeCompte enjoyed reading, working with computers, and following NASCAR and football, among other hobbies.

Mr. LeCompte was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, NRA, and the Republican Party.  He treasured his relationships with his family, who remember him as a kind and generous father and grandfather.  He is survived by one daughter, Carrie Ellen LeCompte of San Francisco, Cal.; one son, William David LeCompte, married to Stephanie, and three grandchildren, William Nathaniel, Meta Camille and Caroline Stella LeCompte, all of Whitefish, Montana.  Mr. LeCompte also is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Nelson of Remlik, and Joan (Robert) Daugherty of Quinton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Gladys Wyatt LeCompte of Middlesex County.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.  Memorial donations may be made to: Middlesex County Public Library, P.O.
