William Perkins

William Allan Perkins, Jr. died on January 10, 2014. He was born in Charlottesville on December 19, 1925. He was the son of William Allan Perkins and Hazlehurst Bolton. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ragland Perkins and his children, Wendy Winkler and her husband, Keith Winkler, Channing Perkins and his wife, Carol, and Howell Perkins. His son, Allan, predeceased him and is survived by his widow, Emma. Mr. Perkins is also survived by his four grandchildren. Mr. Perkins grew up in Charlottesville and graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Following his graduation from Duke University, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving in the Marines, he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School. While at UVA, he was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. He practiced law with McGuire Woods in Charlottesville where he was a partner until he retired in 1987, after suffering a stroke. He spent his retirement in Deltaville with his wife where they enjoyed sailing and living on the Chesapeake Bay. While in Charlottesville, Mr. Perkins was active in many civic and legal organizations. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. He was a past president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Conference of Bar Executives, and the Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association. He was a member of the Sons of American Revolution and a past board member of the Perry Foundation and of the Miller Foundation. He was a former member of Farmington Country Club, the Boars Head Sports Club, Redland Club, and Colonnade Club. After moving to Deltaville, he was active in, and a past Commodore of, the Fishing Bay Yacht Club. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Romeos, the YMCA, and the Deltaville Maritime Museum. He was an active member of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal), where Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 15th.
