William Shackelford

MSgt. William W. “Bill” Shackelford, U.S. Air Force (ret.), age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born September 14, 1931 in Middlesex County, Virginia to Warren and Ruth Shackelford. After graduating from Granby High School, Norfolk, Virginia as one of the top in his class Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he retired after twenty-three years of service. During his tenure in the service he was stationed in England, Germany, Korea and Vietnam where he was a P.O.W. twice. Bill leaves to cherish his memories his best friends and caretakers, Don Engelhardt (Rose), John Matthews (Liz), Geraldine Karras and in Virginia, a very special friend, Patricia “Patsy” Watson and several cousins. Funeral services will be held in San Antonio, Texas. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Topping, Virginia.
