William Franklin Smith, born May 4, 1927, of Port Haywood, VA passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. In his early years he drove for Chesapeake Seafood. He fished and dredged as a local waterman and he retired as a Menhaden Captain from Zapata Haynie. He was a life-long devoted member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Coleman and Pauline Smith; wife, Helen Smith and son Louis Reid Smith.
He is survived by his wife of ten years, Marilee Stewart-Smith; daughters, Linda Criswell and Sharon Love; step-sons, Larry Stewart (Alice), and Ricky Stewart (Wendy); grandchildren, Karen Lloyd (Clay), Kristi Anthony (Michael), Tracey Smith (Debbie), Thomas Smith, and Kevin Criswell; step-grandchildren, Scott Stewart (Courtney), Caroline Emerson (Ethan), Shayne Stewart, and Ryan Stewart (Savannah); great-grandchildren Ashley LaPointe, William Scott Smith, Joseph Wolski, Brent Smith and Joshua Anthony; step- great-grandchildren, Henry Stewart and Brayden Stewart.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Susan, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, ℅ Melanie Miles, P.O.
